Data maturity is a measure of how effectively an organisation uses data for evidence-based decision-making and achieving impactful outcomes.

ISDM CDSSI, has developed the Data Maturity Assessment Lite (DMA Lite) to help nonprofits understand how effectively they collect, manage, analyze, and use data to drive decision-making and improve organizational outcomes.

This self-diagnostic tool is a lite version designed to help your organization assess their current level of data maturity, identify areas for improvement, and access relevant learning resources to strengthen their data capabilities over time.

This assessment has been derived from the more comprehensive Data Maturity Assessment (DMA). You can learn more about it here.

Brief About the Assessment: What to Expect?

Data maturity reflects an organization's ability to systematically use data across its programs and operations. This assessment evaluates your organization's practices across six key areas:

Culture and Mindset — Does the organisation value and prioritise data?
HR Data Management — How is employee data managed?
Project Data Collection and Monitoring — How is field/program data gathered?
Data Storage and Accessibility — How is data stored, secured, and shared?
Project Data Analysis and Visualisation — How is data made sense of and communicated?
Data-Related Training — Are people being built up to do all of the above?

The assessment consists of a series of multiple-choice questions and can be completed in approximately 15-20 minutes.

Why Should You Take This Assessment?

This assessment can help your organization:

Understand the organisation's current data maturity at both the overall and section-specific levels
Identify strengths and gaps across key data functions
Benchmark current practices against emerging sector standards
Build a roadmap towards becoming more data-driven
Access curated learning resources relevant to your organization's needs
Strengthen decision-making, program effectiveness, and organizational performance through better use of data

Whether your organization is just beginning its data journey or looking to strengthen existing systems, this assessment provides a structured starting point for continuous improvement.

It is best completed by a senior leader, founder, department head, or management team member who has visibility into how data and technology are used across both programmatic and administrative functions such as HR, finance, fundraising, and monitoring & evaluation.
