Basics of Writing a Request for Proposals(RFP)

Tutorial
Intermediate Sattva Consulting

A Request for Proposal (RFP) serves as a formal invitation for donors to submit proposals outlining how they can support a non-profit’s initiatives or projects. A strong proposal effectively communicates their mission, goals, and intended impact to potential funders. It helps attract funding, build credibility, and secure support for programs and initiatives, ultimately enabling non-profits to fulfill their mission and make a positive impact in their communities.

This resource includes:

  1. An RFP guidelines document that covers key elements to be included in a proposal and how to structure one’s proposal as per donor requirements
  2. Guidelines to follow while writing RFPs and filling budget templates
  3. An interactive tutorial video that outlines what steps you can follow to effectively write a proposal

Fundraising professionals can use this resource.

Note: This is not a standard template and the information requested as a part of RFPs usually differ from donor to donor. Please use this only as a reference template. It is highly encouraged that you customise this template according to the requirements of your organisation. We are happy to guide you in this process. Resource Summary:

The session centres on the crucial components of CSR proposals, emphasising the importance of data-supported issue statements to capture corporate attention. It’s considered vital to include measurable outcomes, clear assumptions, monitoring plans, and success stories to create a compelling proposal. Detailed RFP templates are provided, highlighting the necessity of compliance documents, applicant information, and concise executive summaries.

The need to establish credibility for new NGOs through leadership profiles and project details is emphasised, alongside specifics on target segments, selection criteria, timelines, and project phases. Budget breakdowns and the ability to utilise community contributions are identified as key factors in proposal assessment. Indirect costs and organisational capabilities are also discussed, underlining the importance of transparency and accountability in project planning.

In essence, the summary underscores the significance of strategic approach, data-driven narrative, and effective communication in crafting successful CSR proposals that resonate with corporate stakeholders.
